Canadian-American Junior Hockey League Announces disassociation with the Northern Alberta Lightning


[September 11, 2023] - The Canadian-American Junior Hockey League (CAJHL) regrets to announce their disassociation with the Northern Alberta Lightning from the league due to the team’s failure to meet their financial commitments and adherence to league governance.  This decision was made after careful consideration and in accordance with the league's policies.


The CAJHL strives to maintain a high standard of professionalism and financial stability within its member teams. Unfortunately, despite extensive efforts to support the Northern Alberta Lightning in meeting their obligations, the team's inability to fulfill their financial commitments and follow league guidelines, has left the league with no choice but to sever the relationship with the team. The CAJHL will explore all legal options available. 


The CAJHL remains committed to providing a competitive and exciting hockey experience for its players, fans, and stakeholders. The league will continue to work diligently to ensure the success and sustainability of its member teams while upholding the values and integrity that define the CAJHL.


The CAJHL will now focus on the upcoming season and explore options to fill the void left by the Northern Alberta Lightning's departure. The league remains committed to providing an exceptional junior hockey experience for all its participants.
