Canadian-American Junior Hockey League Announces Norm Shaw as New Commissioner

[Vegreville, AB 06-10-2024] - The Canadian-American Junior Hockey League (CAJHL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Norm Shaw as its new Commissioner. With a strong background in independent hockey, Shaw brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the league.

Shaw's journey in the hockey industry began in 1990 with the internationally renowned Brick Invitational Hockey tournament. Throughout the years, he has consistently demonstrated his belief that hockey can thrive when managed with a business mindset. Most recently, Shaw served as the founding member and Referee In Chief of the Silent Ice Referee Academy,  Shaw spent 6 years with the highly successful independent Hockey Super League and Junior Prospects Hockey League helping it grow from the initial 14 teams in the Edmonton area to over 150 teams and over 2500 players across Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C.

Not only did he establish a dedicated management team committed to the education of referees, but he also focused on enhancing the understanding of the game among players, coaches, and parents. Under his guidance, the league boasted a roster of over 300 highly dedicated officials.

With 43 years of experience as a referee, including stints in the AHL, WHL, U-Sport, ACAC, and AJHL, Shaw possesses a comprehensive knowledge of the sport. His background in coaching and playing further contributes to his well-rounded understanding of hockey. Beyond the ice, Shaw also has a passion for lacrosse and currently serves as the Commissioner of the Alberta Series Lacrosse, a division of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League, for the seventh term.

In his new role as Commissioner of the CAJHL, Shaw is eager to guide the league's growth from its current five teams and revive the American division, which was temporarily halted due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. His expertise, vision, and dedication to the sport will undoubtedly propel the CAJHL to new heights.
